Presented by the Bear Grylls Survival Academy. Be like Bear and discover how to thrive in any environment – from climbing, spear and axe throwing to fire lighting and shelter building. After dark you can even learn how to navigate using just the stars or toast a marshmallow over the fire for that perfect s’more.
Tyrolean – Bear is famed for his ability to cross some of the most difficult terrain on the planet and make it look effortless, unforgiving mountains, baron deserts and dense rainforests to name a few. In these environments some rope skills can prove to be invaluable and potentially lifesaving when faced with sheer cliffs and towering trees. This activity will test your mettle and see if you have what it takes to conquer high ropes challenges using your physical and mental strength.
Commando Crawl – A classic Royal Marine Commando challenge and one of Bear’s signature challenges on his survival show Running Wild. You must make your way on top and across the hemp rope from one end to the other commando style. Halfway across you will hang upside down and attempt to get back onto the top of the rope.
Would you be able to palate some creepy crawlies Bear Grylls style? Dung beetles, mealworms and scorpions are on the menu.
Ness Knight is an explorer and conservationist who will be running workshops on how to survive in the wilderness.
You will practise your fire lighting skills and make delicious S’mores with our favourite marshmallows and Nature Valley bars!
In pairs, you will play a stalking game – You must avoid detection by keeping close to the ground and blending in as much as possible with the surrounding environment. Beware of your shape, shine, shadow, silhouette and human style of movement as any of these could give you away to would-be attackers, snipers or spotters.
These are both essential skills for the survivor to master. Learn to move stealthily like Bear either to avoid a hunter or to stalk your prey. Home in on the skills needed to accurately throw an axe or spear and hit a designated target. In the SAS Bear learnt the importance of slowing down his heart rate, controlling his breathing and focusing on the job at hand. After all, remember, you may only get one chance to
hit your target in a survival situation…
When Bear is in a survival situation he is always thinking about protection, rescue, water and food. This stance will utilize 3 out of 4. Archery skills go back hundreds of years and it’s fair to say, we have lost the skill of making and firing off arrows. An essential skill if you are going to protect yourself in the wilderness and hunt for food.

Everest is well known as one of the most dangerous and challenging of all the 14 x 8000m plus peaks. Its has taken many climbers by surprise and is responsible for dozens of fatalities on the mountain. This is a dynamic activity which demands courage, determination, strength, balance and some typical Bear Grylls calculated risk taking. Not your normal climbing wall activity, you will be paired up with a belay buddy
who will guide you up the mountain, all trust lies here!
Work with our instructors to find the best kindling and timber to build your own campfire, then learn how to light and maintain the fire. This is a key skill for surviving in the wilderness.

Learn some of the techniques needed for the filtration and purification of water in a survival situation. Water – along with shelter and food – is the most basic need when in a survival situation, yet clean water is almost impossible to simply discover – so these techniques are crucial.
